There’s been golf in these dunes since 1905, with the first modest nine holes laid here extended to 18 in 1965, but for many in more recent decades, the layout and clashing mix of styles simply wasn’t doing justice to the precious natural links land in this fantastic location.

However, these concerns have not just been addressed over recent years but addressed in grand style, the club having been acquired by Liam McDevitt, a man with fond memories of playing this course in his younger years and determined to restore it to glory.
The dramatic renovation of this treasured land was entrusted to renowned international golf architects Hanse Golf Design. Famous for renovating courses the breadth of the US and beyond, the partnership of Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner has reworked the course, creating entirely new green and tee complexes, which now deliver links that benefit from improved routing in their bold yet flowing style, while sculpting fresh challenge and maximising the visual spectacle in this extraordinary coastal setting.
With phase one of this project completed in 2018 and phase two only finished in early 2019, these links bring fresh excitement to ancient turf. Elegant and traditional in appearance, yet sophisticated in terms of strategic challenge, this land is once again being used to its fullest potential.

Traditional Links with a Modern Twist
This modern golfing experience played through old links land now includes a Biarritz green and a “volcano” hole with a green atop a huge conical sandhill. Even the lake behind has been brought into play as a hazard. The opening three holes here are fairly level, allowing players to get into their stride before the 4th doglegs right to lead you into the dunes for a thrilling links adventure played along the shore out to the cliff edges of the point and back. The par-5 18th provides a fantastic finish from an elevated tee, and the new, entirely glazed, contemporary clubhouse is the cherry on top.
