Discover Treasure Inland at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club

KILLARNEY GOLF & FISHING CLUB

Mahony’s Point, Lackabane, Killarney, Co. Kerry

The Ring of Kerry is an enchanting place, boasting some of the finest coastlines to be found anywhere in the world. It’s a haven for nature lovers, a place of pilgrimage for many links enthusiasts, and, understandably, many visitors never consider leaving its shores.

Venture into the heart of the county, however, and you’ll find the countryside every bit as beautiful — not to mention one of Ireland’s golfing treasures; the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club

Set inside Killarney National Park and spread around the shores of Lough Leane, the largest freshwater lake in southwest Ireland, the backcloth to this tremendous golfing location is the majestic Carrauntoohil — Ireland’s largest mountain. It’s an extraordinary piece of countryside, and the golf at the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is every bit its equal.

Course Testimonials

Killarney 18

One Club, Two Top-Class Courses

The club has been chosen numerous times to host the Irish Open and is home to not one but two of Ireland’s finest 18-hole courses and a further nine, making Killarney Golf & Fishing Club a truly world-class destination.

Golf has been played here at Killarney since 1891, but it wasn’t until 1939 that Sir Guy Campbell laid out the proper course here. Today the two 18-hole courses, Mahony’s Point and the more recent Killeen, both take a share of these original holes, incorporated within newer layouts. Mahoney’s point still employs three consecutive holes from Campbell’s original design, delivering what many consider one of the finest finishing stretches in golf. The 18th alone, asking for a tee shot to carry over the edge of the lough to a naturally elevated green, is enough to make it worth a round.

Despite all this, the newer Killeen course, which opened for play in 1972, is now regarded as slightly superior, making this course the venue for the Irish Open four times since 1991, most recently in 2011, when Simon Dyson won here by a single shot.
